Which documents must be registered
Under Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908, documents such as sale and gift deeds of immovable property and leases for more than one year must be registered with the Sub-Registrar. Registering a will is optional but adds a layer of safety. Stamp duty in Delhi is paid through e-stamp paper.
Our approach
We read your facts first, explain the options in plain language, draft clearly, and guide you through stamping and registration so the document holds up when it matters.
Frequently asked questions
Why are rent agreements often for 11 months?
Leases of more than one year require compulsory registration, so many short-term rentals are written for 11 months. Registration is still advisable for clarity and evidence.
Should I register my will?
Registration is not compulsory, but a registered will is harder to dispute and is safely recorded.
Is a notarised agreement to sell enough?
No. A notarised agreement does not transfer ownership. A registered sale deed with proper stamp duty is required to transfer immovable property.
